An Interview With Zach Samuels About Confessions Of A Crack Head

Aug 4th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Zach Samuels has just published a rather disturbing book Confessions Of A Crack Head about his life as a drug user. I work with the homeless and a good proportion of my clients have addiction problems, so this book was one that I could definitely relate to. Zach (not his real name) agreed to sit down and give a short interview.

My normal style is to begin an interview with a biographical question, you know the sort of thing, ‘tell us a little about yourself.’ Obviously that wasn’t going to work, he writes under a pen name and has changed all the names and places. Instead I decided to find out his motivation behind the book, and where the idea came from.

An Interview With Eric Kampmann About Trail Thoughts

Aug 4th, 2008 by Addy | 0

I recently had the opportunity to review Eric Kampmann’s latest book Trail Thoughts. It is a very reflective piece with biblically inspired thoughts for each day of the year. This is a book designed for the reader to sip and enjoy, rather than guzzle down like us reviewers are apt to do!

I had the opportunity to ask Eric about his book, and also about himself.

Can you tell us a little about yourself Erice

A Night in the Ark

Aug 4th, 2008 by Addy | 0

We sat in a glassed-off viewing lounge over-looking the water hole, anxiously waiting for darkness that would bring elephant and buffalo, rhino and bushbuck to sample the salt lick below our window.

Maybe even a Bongo would venture out of the surrounding giant bamboo and into the spot lights, I remember hoping. The San Diego Zoo, where I was public relations director at the time, didnt have the rare Bongo antelope, so I had never laid eyes on one.

Our overnight stop at The “Ark,” a tree-top inn high in the Aberdare Forest of Kenya in East Africa, was a highlight of that many-years-ago camera-safari - the most memorable vacation of our life, my wife and I agree.

Aug 2nd, 2008 by Addy | 0

I often wish I could have seen the big gorilla’s that brought fame to the San Diego Zoo in l930-40s era.

The famous pair, Mbongo and Ngagi, was the envy of the zoo world and the first animals to be honored after their deaths with a statue in the California zoological attraction.

Born in the Belgian Congo, they reigned for a decade as the zoo’s biggest draw. The public flocked to see them, having earlier been made aware of their capture by the famous wildlife photographers Osa and Martin Johnson.

How to Successfully Breed Fish

Jul 29th, 2008 by Addy | 0

For fish to breed successfully in the aquarium, they must be healthy and feel that all conditions are right. Generally, it is difficult to breed fish caught in the wild, as they are much more demanding in their requirements, but usually even the most awkward types can be bred by expert aquarists. After the first few generations have been bred, further breeding is progressively less difficult, as the ‘easy breeders’ become selected out from the population.
