Forming Successful School-Business Partnerships: Finding the Best Partner For Your School

Jun 22nd, 2008 by Addy | 0

The value of forming a structured and productive school-business partnership cannot be over-stated. Selecting your first business partner is the most important step in the beginning of this process. Other partnerships can spin-off of the first if this selection is made carefully. The right match pays big dividends and the partnership will continue to grow and become stronger.

Normally, personnel from the school select a partner from the business community. This certainly does not preclude a business from contacting a school, but educators usually make the first move. When a business makes the initial contact it is often because the school has already established a successful partnership with another company and the new business becomes aware of the mutual benefits of this program. Construct your first partnership well and others will follow.

The Role Of American Business In Education

May 31st, 2008 by Addy | 0

If we accept the premise that education is a lifetime process then well structured, sustainable business-education partnerships become essential. The average American student attends school for 12 to 14 years. Most of these young people will enter a career in business or industry that will last 30 to 40 years. However, there is almost no communication between the education and business communities during the years of learning and training. The result is that most of the students exiting American schools are unprepared for successful employment.

May 17th, 2008 by Addy | 0

This day, May 6, 2008, I spot a front page headline in my local New Jersey paper, The Trenton Times that reads: Ewing H.S vote is void a second time. I had previously commented on my hometown high school\’s senior class elections in a prior post, so I read on.

Seven students, one black and Hispanic, five black and one white, were barred from running in their senior class elections on April 23. The reason given was that the students had missed too many meetings for school activities and had not sufficiently participated in school fundraisers.

May 10th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Last time we talked about the kinds of things to consider when you\’ve been invited to speak with kids at an elementary or middle school.

Let\’s move forward and look at some key points you\’ll want to keep in mind for a memorable visit.

Let kids ask

I always make sure to leave lots of time for kids to ask all kinds of questions. And these questions do not have to be related to my being an author or having written a particular genre of book. I do ask them what kinds of books they like to read and ask them to tell me what book they\’re reading right then.

A New Jersey Student Government Election Made For The Screen

May 10th, 2008 by Addy | 0

I was wrong: It was a story about a high school student government election in Ewing, the town where I live. Seven students, one black and Hispanic, five black and one white, were barred from running in their senior class elections the previous week
