The Plight of the Enlightened and the Unenlightened - Resistance, Opposition and Higher Awareness

How difficult the search for truth and enlightenment can be. In fact the path can seem so impassable that many give up without further effort. An enlightened teacher may have hundreds or even thousands of students-but only a small percentage obtains a glimpse of all the possibilities that could unfold before them.

The physical world of everyday reality presents many challenges to all who reside on our planet. Unfortunately, some are so unaware of what may exist beyond their immediate awareness that they only believe what is right in front of them-and some aren’t even aware of that. They never become equipped to handle the concerns of the past, present or future in an effective manner. They live what Henry David Thoreau calls “lives of quiet desperation.”

The Unhappy Discovery Of Lower Awareness - The Descension To Earth Of The Enlightened - And The Subsequent Ascension To Higher Awareness

Eons ago some wandering souls discovered the planet Earth. These beings were advanced and highly enlightened. The main purpose of their journeys was to find new playgrounds and to experience higher awareness. Much to their delight they possessed a knowing-that pleasurable activities were the key to their growth and evolvement. They existed to ascend to the highest states of ecstasy.

Although they were beings that experienced the highest stages of development-they weren’t perfect. As with all living entities they were liable to error-they still made some mistakes-of course, not as many and to the degree that lesser-developed souls committed. That day-or however they measured time-was the moment when the grand illusion blinded them.

Demolishing the myths of existence

There are basically two ways of looking at your existence. One is from the point of view of you as an individual. The other is from the belief that you are a part of a whole or what is called the collective.

Unfortunately there has been a sharp dividing line drawn between the two. First you have the stereotype of the rugged individualist who stops at nothing to rise to the top–stepping on anyone or anything that gets in his way. This is largely a myth. After all, how could you possibly accomplish anything without the cooperation of others?

Renunciation And Non-Attachment - Stumbling Blocks To Joyous Living

Individuals on a spiritual path eventually hear about the virtues of renunciation and non-attachment. They are told or they read that desire causes all pain and suffering. And of course, an attachment to your desires places you on an endless cycle of alternating pleasure and pain. The only solution is to renounce the flesh and live the contemplative life of the ascetic.
