DIY: Dad’s Irate Yelpe

Jun 19th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Every now and again we see a handyman’s van whizzing busily around town. And quite often they’ll advertise their services along the lines of “Cleaning, carpentry, drains, DIY, repairs”. This is a bit weird when you think about it, because DIY means Do It Yourself, something you’re patently not doing if you pay someone else to do it! But we still sort of know what they mean. In the domestic setting it’s jobs that could be done much more successfully by professionals but that we all too often choose to do ourselves. Or, should we say, our dads choose to do themselves, anyway.

There’s no Time Like the Present For Gift Buying

Jun 19th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Dads might wait with bated breath for that longed-for occasion that comes all too infrequently on the third Sunday of June, but why should they have toe Sure, Father’s Day is a great occasion on which to lavish praise, adoration and gifts on our dads and to get the family together. But if we’re expressing such a deeply held sentiment of love and gratitude (and let’s assume that we are), why do we see it as a once-a-year evente

Get Dear Old Dad \”Linked In\” For Father\’s Day

Jun 9th, 2008 by Addy | 0

With Father’s Day looming on the horizon like a big Death Star, it’s time to sit back and think hard about what you’ll be offering Dad this year as total compensation for his years of paying for your Garanimals, Sugar Pops, and education.

I know nothing will ever top - in your mind - the beer hat you bought him when you were 12 or the World’s Best Dab coffee mug you made in kindergarten, when you still weren’t always batting 100% on that whole confusing difference between ‘d’ and ‘b.’ But you’ve grown up now, and it’s really time that you do for dad what you’d expect anyone else to do for you - buy a gift that will make a stylish statement and have meaning for many years to come.

Father’s Day Golf Gifts - Bring Out The Tiger in Him!

Jun 7th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Until you’ve experienced the ping of a soundly-struck golf ball and then willed it with every sinew in your body to land in the right spot, you will probably see the game as a pointless obsession taking up acres of green space. Why else would people spend every spare hour on the fairways, whatever the weather, attracting lightning strikes like no other sportsmen on earthe

Modern Day Monograms For A Personalised Father’s Day

May 30th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Personalized presents have come a long way, haven’t theye It doesn’t seem all that long ago when a handkerchief with the recipient’s initials embroidered on the corner was considered a perfectly respectable present. And after the nose-blowing craze inevitably passed, we entered the era of the monogrammed bath robe. These largely fell into disuse in 1993 with the invention of the shower; and anyway, they just used to get soggy and leaden the moment you settled into the bath wearing one. Their day would also have passed but for the hotel industry, which keeps the dream alive to this day. Quite why they feel the need to threaten potential robe thieves with the full force of the law is one of life’s mysteries.

When Sunday Comes

May 29th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Father’s Day is basically about making dad feel great for a whole Sunday before he goes back to work on Monday to start another year of feeling miserable. And if there’s one thing guaranteed to satisfy the average dad, it’s sport. In fact, something with a sporting theme has been the mainstay of Father’s Day presents for decades, and not without reason. It is, after all, what dads in particular and men in general choose to talk about when they’re not talking about women, traffic congestion and what they used to get up to when they were in their prime. And frankly, they don’t make very appropriate themes for presents. But finding a great sport-related gift isn’t as easy as it sounds. Let this guide help you find the right gift.

100% Proof That They Are Number One

May 29th, 2008 by Addy | 0

It’s not clear how champagne became the drink most readily associated with celebration and triumph. Perhaps in another universe they celebrate with Liebfraumilch or even blueberry smoothie (although this is probably too extravagant), but as far as earth is concerned, the cork, the pop and the icy bubbles simply say “celebration”. Try and imagine a family gathering without a bit of champagne. Unless it’s a funeral, it’s always appropriate to go bubbly!
