Look to the Mountains

Aug 2nd, 2008 by Addy | 0

What is a Trail Thoughte To me it is what happens when you venture outside on a clear, cold winter night and gaze into the heavens. It happens when you stop to see millions of tiny stars speckle the dark expanse, lighting up the world in all its glory, beauty and mystery. It happens when we face the natural world straight on without the clutter of diverting gadgets. It happens when we hear the music of the spheres while others hear absolutely nothing. “Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy; let them sing before the Lord….” (Psalm 98:8-9)

Biblical Wisdom Defined

Aug 2nd, 2008 by Addy | 0

We often think of wisdom in the abstract - as if it represents a human philosophy, constructed by the hands of men, with only a theoretical application to everyday life. But according to scripture, wisdom pre-existed the creation of the world and comes from the heart of God. (Jeremiah 10:12) For us, therefore, living wisely means that we are living in harmony with the character of God.

Bankrupt in Bridgeport

Aug 2nd, 2008 by Addy | 0

In the preface to Trail Thoughts, I describe my early life of career building as a pursuit of the youthful dreams common in those times: “…I was drawn to Manhattan because of its magnetic energy, its endless promise and its aura of mystery.” But while the initial trajectory of my life there seemed to be rising to the upper reaches of success, the reality was just the reverse. For nineteen years after beginning my climb to the top, I found myself bankrupt in Bridgeport.

How I Came to My \’Jonah Moment\’

Aug 1st, 2008 by Addy | 0

As a young man, I was drawn to Manhattan because of its magnetic energy, its endless promise and its aura of mystery. To me, Manhattan was an imaginary city of glittering majesty, the city described by Fitzgerald as a place that has all the “…wild promise of all the mystery and the beauty in the world.” I came to this city somewhat na

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Aug 1st, 2008 by Addy | 0

Our culture is obsessed with the acquisition of material goods and worldly status. However, in the race to attain these temporal things, people forget to pursue spiritual riches. When we spend the best days of our lives chasing after fame or wealth, then we are to be pitied, for in the end, nothing of lasting value will be ours. “Meaningless! Meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”(Ecclesiastes 1:2)

Stop Worrying and Start Feeling Good Again!

Jul 18th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Does it sometimes seem like you can’t go on anymore with all the stressful things in your lifee Rest assured, help is always there with you!

Last year things started out pretty well with my new first grandson getting bigger every day! Of course, In my opinion he is so cute (a proud grandmother’s comment) and is old enough to walk now. But a little later that year, there was a time when I thought my world was going to fall down around me. My grandson’s father (my son), was diagnosed with advanced heart failure or dilated cardiomyopathy. I remembered that his father passed away quite a few years ago with the same disease.

Does God Heal Those Who Pray or Do We Heal Ourselvese

Jul 14th, 2008 by Addy | 0

We have all heard stories of how people who were afflicted with serious diseases prayed to God and were healed. Despite the fact that many times prayer does not help, in those cases where it was effective this strengthens the faith of those who prayed and further seals their belief that God exists. This is especially the case where faith healers treat hundreds of people at a time, seemingly producing miraculous cures. While some of these “cures” are not valid, at other times real healing has taken place. Does this prove God exists and is doing the healing, or are there other explanationse

Do Atheists Have to be Anti-Faith or Anti-Religione

Jul 13th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Since the religious terrorism of 9/11 a number of books have appeared by atheists that are staunchly anti-faith and anti-religion, placing many of the evils of modern society at the feet of religion. These include Richard Dawkin’s The God Delusion, Sam Harris’ The End of Faith, Daniel Dennet’s Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon, and Christopher Hitchens’ God is Not Great. All are best sellers.

A Vision Check With Jesus

Jul 11th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Jesus is all about vision.

In John 14:6, one of His classic “I am” statements Jesus said, “I am the way . . . and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus is the way to God, the road ahead, the road not yet taken. There is great anticipation in those thoughts. We follow the One who defines Himself as vision incarnate, pathway personified and the future mapped. The impact of His self disclosure, “I am,” reminiscent of God speaking to Moses at the burning bush, puts an eternal finality to the future, in the present tense, “am” (not “will be”). Just as he said from the cross, “It is finished.”
