Are We There Yete

Aug 2nd, 2008 by Addy | 0

If you pay close attention to the news it will begin to dawn on you that we are on a one-way highway to a series of disasters that will probably alter the course of human history in a way that will be detrimental to our way of life. Vice president Al Gore finally managed to make us aware of the dangers we are facing after a long and hard-fought campaign.

His opponents were the nay-sayers who insisted that everything was a-okay and that environmentalists were deranged tree huggers, and of course the indifferent public who were too preoccupied to pay attention. Isn’t it interesting the way the spin doctors manage to demonize anyone they dislike or opposee “Tree hugger” why doesn’t she find a boyfriend to huge

Recycling Plastic Makes Economic and Environmental Sense

Aug 1st, 2008 by Addy | 0

Plastics products are ubiquitous throughout the world. As dependency upon these light weight and durable products increased, so too has the need for global innovation in recycling technologies. Over the decades recycling companies developed a variety of processes to turn discarded plastics into hundreds of products from paint brushes to rugs and pillows, boat hulls and railroad ties.

Calling the Consumer

The greatest challenge to recycling manufacturers is educating and engaging the public. About 75 percent of Americans recycle newspaper and cardboard while little more than 25 percent recycle plastic. Industry analysts think this low response rate might be due to a lack of understanding about the coding on recyclable plastics - the small triangle with a number in the center - that identifies what kind of plastic an item is.

The environment has new champions: Hollywood stars who walked down a biodegradable green carpet with eco-activists at the first screening of The 11th Hour in Canada. The documentary, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio encourages political action to deal with environmental issues. Marlee Matlin was just one local star who sent a postcard to British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell urging him to save the province’s temperate forests, home to the endangered mountain caribou at the premiere. Other activists followed suit.

A private screening was followed by an after-party with organic beer and finger food from all organic ingredients was served.

Choose Your Plastic Products With Care

Jun 20th, 2008 by Addy | 0

People of a certain generation remember when a neighbor whispered a hot tip into the Graduate’s ear, “Plastics.” That was a reflection of the 1960’s excitement over the material that promised to revolutionize manufacturing, industry and household living.

To a large part, that prediction came true. It’s hard to imagine daily life without plastic. I type on my Think Pad made of light and durable plastic; plastic medical instruments, building materials, automobile parts, cell phones, toys and tools make things in America affordable, convenient and portable. A world without plastic is almost unimaginable.

Six Easy, Low-Cost Ways to Go Greener

Jun 18th, 2008 by Addy | 0

With energy prices on the rise and global resources diminishing, more and more people are making efforts to conserve energy, water, and other resources. While some of the ways you can conserve can be expensive, below are some great, low cost ways to reduce your consumption.

1. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs - $3.50/bulb

Compared to traditional incandescent light bulbs, compact fluorescent light bulbs use 75% less energy, produce 75% less heat, and can last 10 times longer. According to Energy Star, if each household replaced just 1 light bulb in their home, we could save enough energy to power 3 million homes for a year, save more than $600 million in annual energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.
