Endometriosis

Aug 4th, 2008 by Addy | 0

To fully understand endometriosis, one has to first know that endometrial membranes (tissues) make up the uterus lining therefore the endometrial membranes can ONLY be found in the uterus. Endometriosis is a medical condition whereby the endometrial membranes are found elsewhere other than the uterus. Most cases of endometriosis are found in parts of the areas of the female pelvis such as the ovary, broad ligaments below the ovary and pouch of Douglas. In some worse cases, these membranes that are supposed to be found only in the uterus are grown in ridiculous areas such as the bladder, kidney, lung and even brain!

Keeping a Journal Can Improve Your Health

Aug 1st, 2008 by Addy | 0

Have you ever been stressed oute Have you ever felt the need to talk about something but never really had the chance or simply did not really feel comfortable enough to do soe There have been many studies done that show that keeping a journal can significantly improve your health. Not only that, but it can help you organize and make sense out of your thoughts as well as make you a better writer. You don’t have to be an accomplished writer or an English major to keep a journal. Your journal can be anything you want it to be, whether it’s a few loose leaf pages stapled together and folded a million times to be stuck in your back pocket or if it’s a leather bound journal- it doesn’t matter. Your journal is only for you to see and read. I love writing and find that I am best able to express my thoughts succinctly and clearly by writing it down on paper. I have kept journals/diaries for as long as I can remember, and I feel that I have greatly benefited from this. Not only does it make you a more introspective person, but I think it improves your ability to communicate your feelings more clearly and concisely.

How is Stress Impacting Your Healthe

Aug 1st, 2008 by Addy | 0

It is so easy to become stressed out in this day and age. You could be going along having a fine day when all of a sudden, someone will simply say two or three words that can totally throw you off or just ruin your day entirely. For example, if you’ve worked all day on a report or article (or something on the computer at work) and the next day you find out that somehow everything that you worked hard on the day before got erased, you might be upset. This would be even worse if you knew that the very same thing that was erased was due by 5pm that same day! Now, what are you going to doe Panicking is not always the solution. In this day and age, many people get caught up in work. We are supposed to work to live not live to work, but this is a fine line that most of cross without even knowing it. The average work week is 40 hours. However, most people cross over this easily because they feel they have to impress their boss or because they may have deadlines, etc. etc. But if you think about it, we earn a paycheck so that we can buy that nice house and have the comfortable lifestyle. However, if we’re working all of the time, when do we ever really get to enjoy ite Twice a week on the weekends if we’re luckye It’s no wonder people are so stressed!

Is Your Home Germ Friendlye

Jul 25th, 2008 by Addy | 0

I have pretty bad allergies, so when I moved from a house that had hardwood floors and allergen reducing carpeting to an older apartment that had wall-to-wall carpeting, I was concerned. Prior to moving in, I made sure that the carpets were thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed. However, simply vacuuming and cleaning a carpet is not the end-all-be-all when it comes to preventing germs from intruding your living space. One of the biggest areas for germs to collect is the bathroom and the kitchen. If you are prone to getting allergies, it is of the utmost importance that you make sure your house, apartment or room is as clean as it can be. However, you don’t want to use too many harsh chemicals (because that’s not good either). There are plenty of things you can do to reduce the amount of germs that’s spread around.

Natural Ways to Tackle a Headache

Jul 25th, 2008 by Addy | 0

Headaches affect millions of Americans each and every day. In some cases, headaches can be so severe that they can actually be debilitating and require medical attention. These types of headaches are often referred to as migraines. Headaches occur for a number of reasons, but the most common reason has to do with stress. Other types of headaches occur because of pre-existing medical conditions. Many people nowadays are very quick to take an aspirin to relieve the pain that they might feel from a headache. However, prevention is often better than cure. Many headaches, since they are stress-related, can be prevented. For example, if you begin to feel yourself getting stressed out, sometimes simply taking a few deep breaths can help to alleviate some of the tension that you might feel beginning with a headache, which will make you feel infinitely better. Another old fashioned method is to get a cold compress and put it over your forehead and eyes. The coolness and dampness of the compress will make your head feel better, and often take some of the pressure away from your head.

Pilates: A Work Out For Mind and Body

Jul 25th, 2008 by Addy | 0

If you are a big fan of yoga, you may just as well be a big fan of pilates. Pilates is very similar to yoga, using graceful movements and poses to work core muscle groups in your body. I first heard of pilates when I was a freshman in college almost eight years ago when I was taking a public speaking class. The topic for one of our speech assignments was to give a speech in which we demonstrate how to do something. For this one girl’s speech, she brought in this pilates video, yoga mat and a medicine ball and demonstrated a few basic exercises to the class on how pilates was done. I remember thinking that it seemed so simplistic…that is, until I tried it and found out otherwise. Pilates is actually very challenging! It is challenging to remain totally focused and calm while your inflexible body (my body is extremely inflexible) tries to flex and hold these difficult poses. Pilates is beneficial for a number of reasons. It improves your posture, strengthens your spine and tones your abs by focusing on your core. What’s even better is that it doesn’t require any major equipment; all you need is a mat or fluffy towel and maybe a medicine ball (optional).
